Parking in Downtown Polk, San Francisco
If you want to follow the history of San Francisco, then taking a trip down Polk Street would be a good start. It runs through Downtown San Francisco and some of the city's most famous neighborhoods, and has been at times the home to some of the most significant historical events in the city's history. One thing that is not quite so well documented is the history of parking on Polk Street, but I would go out on a limb to say that it has never been an easy place to find a parking spot in San Francisco. San Francisco parking is well known to be one of the most difficult places to find parking in North America, and downtown Polk parking (or Polk Gulch parking) is no exception to this rule. It runs through the famously crowded Russian Hill district, and including all of the neighborhoods that are criss-crossed by the road, it is no wonder that Polk Street parking has developed a reputation as some of the worst parking in San Francisco.
Parking in Downtown Polk is characterized by a total lack of on-street parking in addition to very few Polk parking garages or parking lots. And the Polk parking garages that do exist are incredibly expensive and often full during peak hours of the day. If you regularly need to find San Francisco parking, then the best way to avoid paying too much is to find permanent parking in San Francisco, and because of its central location Polk Street parking could very well be the perfect choice.
